In this hands-on workshop, our very own Ian Michael, who is a metal sculptor and also has a certificate IV in Training and Assessment, will introduce you to the basics of welding.
You will learn to weld with a MIG and MMA (stick) welder and how to weld different types of metals.
Using these techniques you will produce your own simple artwork to take home.
The workshop is limited to 5 places and we need a minimum of 4 people attending to run the workshop. Children over the age of 14 are welcome to attend.

Please note this class requires a minimum of four attendees in order to run. All workshop ticket sales are final and non-refundable. If you can't attend your class due to illness or need to isolate, please provide as much notice as possible - you also have the option to send a friend in your place. Please contact us at info@designerdirtwa.com.au if you intend to do so, to ensure we have up-to-date records.
Workshop postponements or cancellations are decided by Designer Dirt and will be re-accommodated, not refunded.
In extreme circumstances – and with adequate notice – we may be able to re-accommodate or offer a store credit for the value of your purchase. Examples of extreme circumstances may include a COVID-19 infection or a requirement to isolate. Store credit vouchers are generated at the discretion of Designer Dirt and are valid for 6 months from the date of creation.
Designer Dirt reserves the right to cancel workshops or make changes to any class's location and instructor. In the rare instance that Designer Dirt cancels a workshop, a full refund will be provided.
Highly recommend this amazing workshop . Ian and Jane are friendly and informative. The 4 hr beginners course today (4/10/26) was so much more than I expected. Ian is safety conscious, easy to understand, funny and made me feel at ease with the welder. Will definitely be doing the next workshop, after I have some practise at home using our MIG & stick welder.

I did the welding for beginners and the Sculpting with Scrap courses. Both were absolutely fantastic, I learnt so much and got plenty of time to practice. Ian supplied all the materials we needed and was very generous with his time, he really knows his stuff and obviously loves what he does too. Thanks Jane for the coffee and biscuits every day. Both great courses that I would recommend to anyone.

We were a group of 5 friends who attended a privately organised Beginners Welding Workshop.
Ian was a fabulous tutor imparting his knowledge and skills wrapped in humour over our 3 hour class, so we had lots of laughs with our learning!
Jane supplied a lovely afternoon tea and is the person to contact if you wish to organise your own private workshop.

We attended the "Welding for Beginners" workshop, and it was the ideal introduction to welding. We had plenty of hands-on time with both stick and MIG welding, all while receiving excellent guidance. Ian was clear, patient and made sure we felt confident using the equipment. The highlight was definitely taking home our own snail sculpture at the end of the day - it was a fun and memorable experience! Highly recommend this workshop for anyone looking to get started in welding.
Great day with fun people, took the mystery out of welding and we learnt lots about steel. Also provided invaluable information about protective gear and what to look out for when going shopping for it. Great hands on workshop too, we all had a crack at welding!

If I could only keep my hand still and improve my eyesight I would make a very good welder after much more practice. BUT the course was well run, very informative and great fun. I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone.

I've been waiting patiently to get into this welding course and am so glad I have done it. Safety measures were thoroughly explained and followed. It was very educational and enjoyable. I learned "I can do this" now that I have some knowledge and experience.

The welding workshop was a great introduction for beginners. Ian explained everything we needed to know to get started. It was hands on and we got to make our first piece of welding art to take home!
